Motivation


Design an immersive experience for the spectators/fans of Formula-E during the race and guide them to numerous activities. Which informs race-goers of essential race-day information. In a nutshell, it means that the app should not only extend its usage and purpose within the racetrack but also before and after the race. Using an ‘App’ instead of a Computer kiosk would allow constant access by the user throughout their experience.

Research done

We conducted online surveys, in person interviews, desktop research along with competitive analysis of other similar ‘Wayfinding’ apps. We asked questions relating to their habits and preferences not only around the racetrack but also before and after. The questionnaire can be viewed here.


Insights from Research

Having 54 responses to our Survey through Google Forms provided us meaningful insights and helped us come up with a feature list. Lot of unexpected insights emerged from the research such as need to better comprehend live race positions that a user saw from his stand view. Another unexpected insight was realizing the importance to user of showing all relevant track information.

After going through the insights, we had rounds to come up with feature lists of our own without being influenced by the other team member. Once we came up with our individual lists, we had a session where we combined and discarded a few ideas. The final feature list is as below.

    1) MAP NAVIGATION : An interactive map that shows the location of all stalls/areas and guides the user towards various areas. It would also have a comprehensive list of all events and stands that are there on the race day.

    2) LIVE RACE : This feature would show the live stats of team timings and race leaders and also show live race feed so that the user isn’t missing any action. It would also have an AR function. This would allow a user to use the AR camera feature which would show what team just passed their stand.

    3) RACE FEED : This feature would show the live stats of team timings and race leaders and also show live race feed so that the user isn’t missing any action. It would also have an AR function. This would allow a user to use the AR camera feature which would show what team just passed their stand.

    4) PROFILE :
      a. E-Ticket : Having a digital ticket would allow the user to travel hassle free and easier without any need to print it. This ticket would also be hyperlinked to the map, so that the user can see where their seat is, in which stand.

      b. E Wallet : We intend to introduce and ePayment and eWallet system for easier purchase of items at the venue.

      c. Social Media : This would provide a user the means to add customizable race frames, stickers around their pictures as well as a platform to share their activities via facebook and twitter. Having this integration into the app itself would help generate an even bigger 'online buzz' around the track events.

    5) RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE EVENTS : This would provide a user the means to add customizable race frames, stickers around their pictures as well as a platform to share their activities via facebook and twitter. Having this integration into the app itself would help generate an even bigger 'online buzz' around the track events.
    6) FAN BOOST VIBRATION : As a team uses the ‘Fan Boost’, the app would make the user’s phone vibrate and send an audio tone. This would increase the user engagement and help foster greater interest and excitement into the race.
